An Overview

British Embassy in Lisbon is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic, security and consular interests overseas.

We are now seeking a top-quality Policy and Communications Assistant who will work at the heart of the British Embassy in Lisbon, in its Political and Economic Section.

As the Policy and Communications Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work across the full spectrum of the UK’s policy priorities in Portugal. Your focus will be providing support to the Policy Officer and the Communications Officer. You will also provide some light-touch administrative support to the wider political and economic section. Demonstrating flexibility and adaptability will be important.

You will need to be able to work both autonomously and as part of a wider team, including with other sections of the Embassy. You will form part of a team of 12 colleagues working on issues including internal politics, economics, communications, energy, education, health and values. You will be encouraged to contribute to the corporate life of the Embassy, for example by joining one of the main staff committees (e.g. learning and development, wellbeing and inclusion).

The Role Entails

  • Providing support to the Policy Officer, for example through research and analysis on specific projects.
  • Drafting and posting digital media content in support of the UK Government’s priorities in Portugal.
  • Supporting the Communications Officer to design and deliver internal communications (for example posters).
  • Arranging external and internal meetings for team members.
  • Working closely with the Ambassador’s office to coordinate key information across the section and the wider Embassy, including stakeholder contacts and invitations to the Embassy’s largest-scale events.
  • Providing ad hoc administrative support to the wider team including stationery orders, and travel/transport bookings.
  • Contributing to a positive working culture in the UK’s Portugal Network, including through membership of a corporate committee.
